Frequently Asked Questions
Why Have A Massage?
Regardless of age, bodyshape, or condition, massage provides great beneficial value to help combat the stresses of modern living, and treat many of the aches and pains associated with incorrect body posture and movement injuries. Massage assists in helping the body to normalise muscles and soft tissues back into their neutral state. There are very few conditions where massage is considered inappropriate and these will be checked during your consultation.
What To Expect?
On arrival a consultation is taken to find out about areas of concern and establish any medical history that may be relevant. A short external body examination may follow to assess any specific areas. It is possible to receive massage through clothing and only necessary to remove layers that your are comfortable with. You will be asked to either sit on a chair or couch, lie sideways, face up or face down on the couch and there will be a blanket provided to cover yourself. It is essential that you feel comfortable and at ease.
Massage will start with gentle hand pressure and may include the application of oil or wax to help smooth and nourish the skin. This will allow flowing massage strokes using hands and forearms on the body. The pressure and types of strokes will vary as the massage progresses and it should not feel painful, although there may be some areas which are more sensitive. You will be asked if the pressure is suitable and are encouraged to comment at any time regarding your level of comfort or if the pressure being applied is not acceptable.
