Deirdre Lee

DSM, DSRM, DIHM

My interest in Body Work started in 2008 when I completed a Diploma in Swedish Massage with the Highland School of Massage, followed with Sports & Remedial Massage in 2012. I have continued to progress my development with various massage techniques including:

Indian Head Massage, Trigger Point Therapy, Hands Free Massage, Isolated Stretching Techniques & an Introduction to Iris Cancer Care.

I am a member of the Scottish Massage Therapists Organisation & am currently practicing Myofascial Release Techniques.

I have a wonderfully relaxing, fully equipped therapy salon located centrally in Inverness. I also provide a mobile massage option, where you can enjoy a complete treatment in the comfort of your own home.

I truly believe overall beneficial effects of massage are unlimited, regardless if provided as treatment of an injury, or purely for relaxation. To help maintain the benefits gained from massage, I also have simple take-away stretches and exercises.

My Expertise & Approach

Massage is a therapeutic multidimensional skill involving a variety of techniques to influence soft body tissue and underlying muscles for treatment & relaxation using a combination of massage methods.

  • Swedish Massage is a gentle and relaxing technique using a selection of stokes, compression and friction.
  • Remedial Massage (also known as Sports & Remedial… but not just limited to sporty people) is a deeper tissue massage with stronger influence on specific areas to help alleviate knots, stiffness and pain.

The pressure and requirements of your massage are individual to your own needs, and this is discussed whilst carrying out your initial consultation as well as any other general health considerations. The first appointment includes a consultation which can take 10 – 20 minutes, depending on the state of health and individual requirements. This is not included as massage treatment time so it is necessary to allow more time for the first session. Our body requires fluid for all activities and it is a major influence on the tissues ability to move and interact. Many of us forget to drink enough and for massage purposes this is a key factor in re-hydrating tissues following treatment and helping them to get back to ‘normal’.

Ideally, I would like you to increase fluid intake by at least 10% the day before and the day of your massage treatment .

Frequently Asked Questions

Why Have A Massage?

Regardless of age, bodyshape, or condition, massage provides great beneficial value to help combat the stresses of modern living, and treat many of the aches and pains associated with incorrect body posture and movement injuries. Massage assists in helping the body to normalise muscles and soft tissues back into their neutral state. There are very few conditions where massage is considered inappropriate and these will be checked during your consultation.

What To Expect?

On arrival a consultation is taken to find out about areas of concern and establish any medical history that may be relevant. A short external body examination may follow to assess any specific areas. You will then be asked to remove outer clothing to underwear and lie either face up or down on the couch. You can cover yourself with the blanket provided (it is only necessary to remove clothes to the level you are comfortable with and tt is also possible to receive massage through clothing).
Massage will start with gentle hand pressure and application of oil or wax to help smooth and nourish the skin. This will allow flowing massage strokes using hands and forearms on the body. The pressure and types of strokes will vary as the massage progresses and it should feel ‘good’ and not painful. You will be asked if the pressure is suitable and can comment at any time if the pressure is not acceptable.
